A hilarious and empowering queer film.

When a conversation with her mother is met with resistance, Danielle finds herself thrown into a multitude of absurd attempts at salvation.

"The Attempt" is a hilarious and empowering short film that celebrates the journey of self-love and acceptance in the face of resistance. We follow the story of Danielle (Kaleen Mayhew) as she embarks on a humorous task to come out to her mother (Lisa-Marie Newton), encountering one absurd scenario after another.

Drawing inspiration from a true conversation, "The Attempt" breathes new life into the coming-out narrative by infusing it with humor, heart, and empowerment. The film challenges the notion of seeking acceptance, instead advocating for authenticity and inviting others to be part of our lives.

This queer film invites audiences to embrace true love and transcend expectations. With its blend of humor, heart, and hope, this film promises to leave viewers both laughing and inspired.

Writer Statement

Why this film is getting made.

So many of the coming out stories in film and television are rooted in the pain of not being accepted. And while that is a very real truth–one I have personally experienced–I want to encourage a shift. Let us not ask for acceptance, but rather invite others to be part of our journey.

This film is about true and real love that rises above the pressures and views that others may put on you.
